Footballl Federation supported a new initiative by Colombo Football League and City Football League to organize a joint championship for top teams of both leagues .
The competition is named as “ Colombo-City Challenge Trophy 2024 “ will see four top teams from Colombo FL and another four top teams from City FL .
In the draw held today , the following teams will face each other at a two-legged fight before one team from each group advances to the Semi Final.
Challenger will face Ratnam , while New Star will face Old Ben’s in the Colombo group .
In the City group, Sauders was drawn against Java Lane while Renown was drawn against Maligawatta Youth
The matches will be played in the weekend at City League grounds starting from 20th July to 10th August 2024.
Champions will receive Rs. One million cash prize and the runner up will receive Rs. 500,000/-
All eight participating teams will be awarded with Rs. 250,000/- cash award and a jersey set .
FFSL President Jaswar Umar participated in the draw ceremony and announced that FFSL is supporting the restart of domestic football competitions by activating the leagues .
He further said , Sri Lanka football is steadily moving towards the right track and few people are trying to build false stories of the delays in the domestic season , which delayed due to the funds from FIFA .
FFSL is preparing four national teams currently- Senior Men , Senior Women , Boys U17 and Boys U20 for upcoming competitions.
The top league seasons will commence from 3rd week September 2024 onwards .
